Plans for Week of September 27

We're learning a lot in third grade, including:

  • who King Saul of the Bible was and how important it is to trust God's plan, instead of following self,
  • how to identify nouns and how to change them from singular to plural,
  • who William Penn was and what role he had in founding Pennsylvania,
  • what religious freedom is,
  • the states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) and what molecules are,
  • how to multiply with 2-digit numbers,
  • geographic things like US regions and the states that are in the northeast region.

This week, your student will have the following quizzes and tests:

  • Friday: Spelling, list 6 (still a trial test on Thursday)
  • Memory verse: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1
  • Tuesday: Math quiz 2 (a cumulative mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication through 3 times table, units of measure, counting currency)

Progress reports will come home Monday.
I'd like to point out that I have not taken many grades for reading yet, but more will be added.  There aren't quizzes over the actual reading books, so the grade will be based on 1) oral reading, and 2) reading comprehension sheets.  You may have seen a few of the ABeka reading comprehension sheets, which I haven't graded yet because of their difficulty.  I do plan to work them in while adding others, so that by the end of the nine weeks, we'll have more grades for reading.

Grandparents' Day is Friday, October 1.
We're going to be working on a couple of handmade gifts this week, but there won't be an event at school.

Lastly, you're probably already aware that I am using Class DoJo now. If I need to get a message out quickly, it's easier to send out a group DoJo message than to email the whole parent list.  I will not be using it for points, just communication.

Thank you and God bless!
