Week of April 25

Hello, third grade families!! I hope you and yours had a restful break from the normal school routine.  We're in the home stretch to summer now!

A few important notes:

  • SAT-10 testing will be May 10-12.
  • Our seniors graduate May 13.
  • Our preschoolers and kindergarteners graduate May 20.
  • The last day for students will be May 23.

Academics:
  • Health test Tuesday.  A study guide went home before break.
  • Bible memory this week: John 20:29 b.  "...blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."
  • Spelling is list 30.  I already put it in the center of the folders of the ones who were here.  Homework Tuesday, trial test Thursday, final test Friday, as usual.
  • Language test Wednesday.  Watch for a workbook page with the material on it.
  • In math, we have moved up to the ten and eleven multiplication tables, so please practice all of them at home, if necessary.
  • Reading homework will be chapter 11 of Secret in the Maple Tree.
Here are the due dates for the rest of the sections for the Animal Notebook.  As a reminder, the pictures may be from the science notebook itself, the internet, magazines, stickers, or hand-drawn. They do NOT have to write reports, but should write the characteristics of each.  I would like to see at least two pictures for each page.
Fish:  Monday, April 25
Birds and Reptiles:  Monday, May 2
Amphibians and Invertebrates:  Monday, May 9

Lastly, I'm looking forward to ending the year strong.  I've enjoyed this class so much, so I want to make the most of the last month that we'll be together.  Thank you for helping them to stay focused all the way to the end!

Week of April 11

Hippity, hoppity, spring break is finally on its way!
Here are a few notices:

  • Easter egg hunt with all lower elementary students at Brown House on Thursday from 10:00-10:30.  A permission slip went home Friday, so please return it as soon as possible.
  • Please send in 12 filled plastic eggs so that each child can "hunt" for at least a dozen.
  • Early release Thursday, starting at 12:30!
  • School resumes on Monday, April 25.

Academics:

  • History test Monday.  A study guide went home Friday and I told the students they could also bring their history books home.  The test will also have US state geography, except the states in the west region.
  • No Bible memory this week.
  • No spelling test.  I will assign something to use as a grade this week, but it will be open book.
  • In math, we'll be moving up to the ten and eleven multiplication tables, so please practice all of them at home, if necessary.  I keep telling the students that they have to memorize them and know them in fourth grade.
  • Reading homework will be chapter 10 of Secret in the Maple Tree. That may be done over break.
Here are the due dates for the rest of the sections for the Animal Notebook.  As a reminder, the pictures may be from the science notebook itself, the internet, magazines, stickers, or hand-drawn.
The students might want to do the whole thing over Easter break, and that's fine.  They do NOT have to write reports, but should write the characteristics of each.  I would like to see at least two pictures for each page.
Fish:  Monday, April 25
Birds and Reptiles:  Monday, May 2
Amphibians and Invertebrates:  Monday, May 9

Week of April 4

Hello, everyone! We had a little April Fool's Day silliness with a handmade paper spider on my desk, a few jokes, and Mrs. Brammer's clown nose.
I'm sure we're all counting down the days until summer, but there are still many things to learn.  Here are a few bits of information:

  • Our class will attend the "Too Good for Drugs" program on Wednesdays.
  • April 14 (next Thursday) will be our Easter party and early release day.
  • School resumes on April 25.
  • May 25 is the last day for students.

Academics:

  • Language test Monday.  We went over the material in class, and the students have a workbook page in their folders with some of the material.
  • This week's reading homework is chapter 8 of Secret in the Maple Tree.  In order to finish on time, I am reading a chapter to them on Fridays.
  • Wednesday: quizzes in history and health  (study guides will come home)
  • Friday: memory verse quizMark 8:31 (KJV) "And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again."  Don't worry:  I'll provide a word bank this time.
  • Spelling is list 28.  I will grade numbers 1-23, as usual, with the definitions of the vocabulary being three points each.  I hope they do as well this week as they did on list 27.
  • Friday:  math test
  • Monday, April 11: history test
